Total Contact Casting (TCC) is recognized as the Gold Standard for offloading in the management of the patient with a Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU). This presentation briefly reviews the epidemiology and clinical management of DFUs, and reviews the complications related to this condition including infection and amputation, but focuses primarily on the techniques and skills required for correct application of a TCC. Detailed instruction is provided for the application of both the traditional cast and well as the newer EZ TCC. The student will learn proper application and cast removal sequences as well as clinical pearls that will ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Target AudienceThis course is designed for physicians, fellows, mid-level practitioners, nurses and other allied health professionals dedicated to advanced wound care.
