Program Summary
Covered in this course is the image production process that occurs in CT. From the X-ray tube to CT image, all of the major components important in the image production process and important to RT’s who scan are defined and explained. How the individual components contribute to the CT image production process and how each component works are explained with appropriate depth. Components and their function(s) are discussed and include the X-ray tube, the generator, the beam shaping filter, the reference detectors, the pre-patient collimator, patient attenuation factors, the pre-detector collimator, the detector system, the analog-to-digital converter, the CT computer/Array Processor, the digital-to-analog converter and the image monitor.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the presentation and with a minimum of 80% proficiency, each attendee will be able to:
  • Recreate the CT imaging chain from X-ray tube to CT image on the monitor;
  • Describe the function of the individual components that complete the CT imaging chain; and,
  • Accurately complete the CT math computations that include “PITCH”, beam width and pixel size.
