CE for Specialty: Athletic Training 80 hours of continuing education must be completed triennially. The 3 year periods shall commence on January 1st of the calendar year following the end of the previous 3 year cycle and the end on December 31st of the third full calendar year thereafter. (i.e., January 1st, 2012 to December 31st, 2014.)
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 10 hours of continuing education each calendar year for speech language pathologists. 5 hours of continuing education each calendar year for speech language pathology assistants. The due date for license renewal is the expiration date indicated on the renewal certificate. Speech language pathologists and audiologists 5 hours of the 10-hour requirement must have been obtained in the licensee’s area of practice (speech language pathology or audiology); and 5 hours of the 10-hour requirement may be in the area of either speech language pathology or audiology. Persons who hold dual licenses (speech language pathology and audiology) must complete a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education during each calendar year. The hours must be distributed equally between each specialty. For purposes of these rules, 0.1 continuing education unit (CEU), as defined by ASHA and other CE course providers, is equivalent to 60 minutes or 1 hour of continuing education.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition There is no continuing education requirement.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services CE Requirements for EMTs and Paramedics EMT Basic & EMT IV: Completion of 2.0 CEU hours or 20 continuing education hours Paramedic: Completion of 3.0 CEU hours or 30 continuing education hours. Paramedic Critical Care: completion of 10 hours of additional continuing education contact hours in critical care topics. These hours may include continuing education, in-service and attendance and participation in other approved critical care programs. Renewal date is based on the individual’s birth month and year. License will expire on the last day of the individual’s birth month. If individual was born in an even year, license will expire in an even year. If individual was born in an odd year, license will expire in an odd year.
CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology CE: 24 Contact Hours must be completed over a two year renewal period.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy CE: 25 Contact Hours must be completed over a two year renewal period. NCBTMB approved courses are accepted except for the required 2 hours of CE pertaining to Tennessee statutes and rules.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 40 Hours of continuing medical education courses must be completed during the two calendar years (January 1 – December 31) that precede the licensure renewal year. At least one of the forty required hours shall be a course designed specifically to address prescribing practices (controlled substances). AMA PRA Category I courses acceptable. If a physician provides medical care for persons with intractable pain, with or without the use of opiate medications, to the extent that those patients become the focus of the physician’s practice the physician must be prepared to document specialized medical education in pain management sufficient to bring the physician within the current standard of care in that field which shall include education on the causes, different and recommended modalities for treatment, chemical dependency and the psycho/social aspects of severe, chronic intractable pain. Note: more specific details regarding this training are NOT provided. Licenses must be renewed every two years.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Occupational Therapists (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) must complete 24 continued competency credits for the 2 years preceding the date of the 2 year license renewal. Due date for renewal of a license is the last day of the birth month of the OT or OTA.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 30 hours of continuing education must be completed biennially. 15 live contact hours are required. A pharmacist shall obtain the hours from a program designated as “live” by the ACPE-approved provider, from a program that is approved by the Board prior to the expiration of the pharmacist’s license or from an out-of-state program that is approved by the board of pharmacy in the state where the program was presented. Home study must be approved by ACPE. The board will recognize any continuing pharmaceutical education hours obtained from an ACPE- approved provider. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician No continuing education is required.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: PTs and PTAs have a biennial renewal period: For odd years CE must be completed by April 30th for the May 31st expiration date. For even years CE must be completed by July 31st for the August 31st expiration date. 30 contact hours required biennially for PTs; 20 for PTAs. Required hours must include two hours of ethics (ethics education that includes the APTA Guide for Professional Conduct and the APTA Code of Ethics) and two hours of jurisprudence courses every other 24 month period (every 4 years).
CE for Specialty: Psychology 40 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal period. Licenses must be renewed biennially. The deadline for renewal is December 31st every 2 years; the year is dependent on individual licensure date.
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology Radiologist Assistant – 24 hours Biennial birthdate renewal system.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy 10 hours of continuing education are due the last day of the month in which a birthdate falls pursuant to the Division’s biennial birthdate renewal system.   At least 5 hours of the 10 hour requirement shall pertain to the clinical practice of respiratory care, or to education, or to research relating to the cardiopulmonary system Up to 5 hours of the 10 hour requirement may pertain to the management of practicing respiratory care or may pertain to ethics and substance abuse 5 hours maximum in home-study/self-study
CE for Specialty: Social Work LBSW Renewal: 9 hours continuing education.  Four (4) hours shall be in social work. Three (3) hours shall be in professional ethics. Two (2) hours shall be in either social work or professional ethics. LMSW Renewal: 12 hours continuing education. Seven (7) hours shall be in social work. Three (3) hours shall be in professional ethics. Two (2) hours shall be in either social work or professional ethics LAPSW Renewal: 15 hours continuing education. Ten (10) hours shall be in social work. Three (3) hours shall be in professional ethics. Two (2) hours shall be in either social work or professional ethics. LSCW Renewal: 15 hours continuing education. Ten (10) hours shall be in social work. Three (3) hours shall be in professional ethics. Two (2) hours shall be in either social work or professional ethics. Social Work licenses expire annually. A maximum of two-thirds (2⁄3) of a licensee’s credit hours may be granted for home-study courses during each calendar year. Those licensees who hold more than one (1) category of licensure to practice social work must separately satisfy the continuing education requirements for each level of licensure.
