Oklahoma RN required number of CE credits per year(s) Beginning January 1, 2014, all Registered Nurses (RN) renewing their licenses will be required to meet one of five options for renewal within the two years prior to the date of expiration of the license. One of the options is to verify the completion of at least twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education applicable to nursing practice. Because at least one of the five options must have been completed within the two years prior to the date of expiration of the license, RNs should begin their efforts to meet the continuing qualifications requirements twenty-four months prior to the expiration date of their licenses in 2014. Oklahoma LPN required number of CME credits per year(s) Beginning January 1, 2014, all Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) renewing their licenses will be required to meet one of five options for renewal within the two years prior to the date of expiration of the license. One of the options is to verify the completion of at least twenty-four (24) contact hours of continuing education applicable to nursing practice. Because at least one of the five options must have been completed within the two years prior to the date of expiration of the license, LPNs should begin planning for meeting their continuing qualifications requirements two years before they are due to renew in 2015. CE for Specialty: Athletic Training No continuing education is required. Licenses must be renewed annually.
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 20 Contact Hours must be completed every 2 year renewal period. Licenses expire on December 31st of even-numbered years. (e.g., December 31st, 2012.) A speech-language pathologist or audiologist obtaining initial licensure during a two year period shall have his or her continuing education requirement prorated to 2.5 clock hours per full quarter remaining in that period
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition There is no continuing education requirement.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services Oklahoma licenses are valid for a 2 year period beginning July 1st and continuing through June 30th of the respective expiration year. CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology There are no Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy There are no Continuing Education Requirements.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 60 hours of Category I credits must be completed during the preceding 3 years as defined by the American Medical Association/ Oklahoma State Medical Association/ American Academy of Family Physicians or other certifying organization reorganized by the Board. Applicants initially licensed as a Physician Assistant will be exempt from reporting Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits until one year after licensure, thereafter each applicant for renewal must provide evidence that he or she has successfully earned at least twenty (20) hours of Category I CME hours during the preceding calendar year. At least one hour of Category I CME shall be earned each calendar year concerning the topic of substance abuse. Licenses must be renewed every three years. Physicians will be required to begin reporting three years from the date licensure was granted.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Occupational Therapists (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA) are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 15 hours of continuing education must be completed annually. Home study must be approved by the board or ACPE. Live hours are permitted, but not required. Only Board approved or ACPE approved programs may be used for credit toward the required 15 hours of annual continuing education. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician No continuing education is required.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: Cycle ends December 31 every odd year. Physical Therapist you must obtain forty (40) hours of approved continuing education every two (2) years (i.e. – from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015, etc.). Physical Therapist Assistant you must obtain thirty (30) hours of approved continuing education every two (2) years (i.e. – from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015, etc.). Three hours of ethics education required that includes the APTA Guide for Professional Conduct and the APTA Code of Ethics.  No more than 50% of continuing education can be taken through online courses.
CE for Specialty: Psychology 20 hours of continuing education are required every renewal period. All licensees must complete a minimum of 3 hours in ethics. Licenses must be renewed annually. The CPE calendar year extends from October 1st through Septemeber 30th. The deadline for credit reporting is November 1st.
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology No CE required.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy 12 hours of continuing education are due every two years on or before the last day of the month in which initial licensure was granted. At least half of the required Continuing Respiratory Care Education hours must be directly related to clinical practice.   All CE can be obtained through home-study/self-study courses.
CE for Specialty: Social Work Renewal: sixteen (16) hours social work continuing education must be completed annually December 31. Three (3) hours of ethics continuing education and eight (8) hours of Formally Organized Learning Events Includes learning events involving face to face interaction with a teacher for the purpose of accomplishing specific learning objectives. Examples include courses, workshops, practice oriented seminars, and training offered by accredited programs of social work education, as well as live interactive video. All contact hours can be home study.
