CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 30 Contact Hours must be completed each 3 year renewal period. Of these 30 hours, at least 20 must be completed in a  “professional” area, and the remainder may be in a “related area.” “Professional” area is defined as: for speech-language pathologists: the study of normal processes, and the assessment and treatment of speech, voice, language, hearing and swallowing disorders. For audiologists: the study of normal processes, and the assessment and treatment of hearing, speech, voice, and language disorders. Within a three-year registration cycle, audiologists who are hearing aid dispensers must complete six of the professional hours in courses related to hearing aid selection and fitting. “Related” subject areas for both speech-language pathologists and audiologists means: legal or regulatory issues; reimbursement issues; general supervision; business practices; pedagogical methodologies; other topics which contribute to the professional practice of speech-language pathology and/or audiology; and other matters of health care, law, ethics and professional responsibility which contribute to the health and welfare of the public.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition There are no continuing education requirements.

CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy CE: 36 hours must be completed over a three-year renewal period. Effective January 1, 2012, New York State Education Law requires completion of 36 hours of acceptable formal continuing education each three-year renewal period.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: Effective January 1, 1989, Education Law required certain individuals, when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This requirement applies to: Chiropractors, Dental Hygienists, Dentists, Optometrists, Physicians, Podiatrists, Psychologists, and Registered Nurses. Infection Control Training must be completed every four years after initial licensure. New York SB 2043 requires physicians renewing a license to submit proof that, within the 3-year period immediately preceding such renewal period, he or she has successfully completed a course or courses of CME in professional medical competency. Further, the commissioner of health shall develop a course of instruction in medical risk management. Licenses must be renewed every three years.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Effective February 13, 2013, Occupational Therapists or Occupational Therapy Assistants, are required to complete 36 contact hours of approved continuing competency within each three-year renewal period. These requirements will be phased in during the first three years. Therefore, OTs and OTAs are required to complete one-half hour of continuing competency for each month beginning in March 2013 through February 2016, for those registrants whose three-year renewal period falls within this time frame. Commencing with March 2016, registrants will be required to complete the full 36 hours of continuing competency. The complete standards for continuing competency for Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants can be found in section 76.10 of the Commissioner’s Rules and Regulations.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 45 hours of continuing education must be completed every 3 years. Home study: At least 3 credits (home study or live) of formal continuing education on strategies and techniques to reduce medication and prescription errors. 23 live hours are required. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician No continuing education is required.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: PTs and PTAs are required to complete 36 contact hours during each three year renewal cycle.  
CE for Specialty: Psychology There are no continuing education requirements
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology Radiologic Technologist: 12 CEs or currently registered and in good standing with either the American Registry or Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) Submit a copy of your current ARRT certification. This will satisfy the 12 continuing education credits that are required annually.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Continuing education required: Respiratory Therapists: 30 hours                                    Respiratory Therapy Technicians: 24 hours Due at the end of each three-year interval based on the licensee’s birth month. The law requires that respiratory therapy courses be provided by approved sponsors. Informal self-study courses must constitute not more than half of the total hours.
CE for Specialty: Social Work Effective January 1, 2015, an applicant for registration as a licensed master social worker or licensed clinical social worker shall complete a minimum of 36 hours of acceptable formal continuing education over the 3-year period. Continuing education hours taken during one triennium may not be transferred to the subsequent triennium. No more than 12 hours of continuing education activities in any 36 month period, or one-third of the total hours in periods of other length, may consist of self-study educational activities from New York State Education Department approved providers. Effective September 1, 2004, Education Law requires licensed clinical social workers and licensed master social workers, when applying initially for licensure or a limited permit, or for the renewal of a New York State license or registration, to provide documentation of having completed two hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of child abuse and maltreatment. This is a one-time requirement and once taken does not need to be completed again.
