Nebraska RNs must complete at least 20 contact hours of continuing education within the past 2 years. Must be related to the practice of nursing. At least 10 of the 20 hours must be formally peer reviewed and approved continuing education. Up to 4 hours may be CPR or BLS courses. |

CE for Specialty: Athletic Training | 25 hours of continuing education must be completed biennially. Licenses expire every 2 years on May 1st of odd-numbered years. |
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP | CE: 20 Contact Hours must be completed each 2 year renewal period. Licenses expire on December 1st each even-numbered year. (e.g., December 1st, 2012). All 20 hours may be from Content Area I with no more than 5 hours from Content Area II. Renewal of a license will be contingent upon the licensee fulfilling the continuing competency requirement and maintaining documentation for a possible audit. The Board does not pre-approve continuing education programs. |
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition | 30 hours of continuing education is required on September 1st of each odd year. Continuing education must be approved by the board Home-study/self-study courses are limited to 15 hours per cycle |

Up to 10 hours of board approved home study on specific topic areas is allowed. Minimum of 14 hours of “hands on” instruction. |
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery | CE: 50 hours must be completed every 2 years; all credits must be Category 1. Licenses must be renewed every two years on October 1st of even-numbered years. (2012, 2014, etc.) |
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy | CE Requirements: Occupational Therapists (OT) are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education in the 2 year period preceding the date the license expires. Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA) are required to complete 15 hours of continuing education in the 2 year period preceding the date the license expires. Licenses for both Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants expire on August 1 on even-numbered years. |
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy | 30 hours continuing education must be completed by January 1 of even numbered years. Home study must be approved by ACPE – no restrictions on home study versus live. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”. Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements. |
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician | No continuing education is required. Licenses must be renewed biennially and will expire January 1st of odd-numbered years (i.e.: 2015; 2017). Renewal notices will be sent at least 30 days prior to the expiration date. |
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy | CE Requirements: Complete continuing education hours to renew a physical therapist license or physical therapist assistant certificate during the preceding 24 month period. Each physical therapist must complete 20 hours of continuing education and each physical therapist assistant must complete 10 hours of continuing education during the preceding 24 month period. All PTs and PTAs licenses or certificates expire November 1 of each odd-numbered year. |
CE for Specialty: Psychology | 24 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal cycle. Licenses must be renewed biennially. The deadline for renewal is January 1st of each odd numbered year. |
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology | CE per license: Medical Radiographer- 24 hours Limited Radiographer- 24 hours Temporary Medical Radiographer- N/A; Persons licensed as temporary medical radiographers are permitted to perform the duties of a limited radiographer licensed in all categories. Please note that the temporary medical radiographer license is only available to students who have finished at least one year of a two-year educational program, and who are still enrolled in the program. CE Course Requirements: The topic and/or objectives must relate to Medical Radiography, which includes but is not limited to mammography, MRI, computed tomography, cardiovascular technology, quality management, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, ultrasound and medical dosimetry. Renewal happens every two years. |
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy | 20 hours of continuing education are due on June 1st of each even year. All CE can be home-study/self-study. |
CE for Specialty: Social Work | Certified Master Social Worker (with LMHP): No additional hours above those for LMHP must be completed by September 1 of odd-numbered years. Provisional Certified Master Social Worker: 0 hours must be completed within five (5) years from date of issue. Certified Master Social Worker (no LMHP): 32 hours must be completed by September 1 of even-numbered years. Certified Social Worker: 32 hours must be completed by September 1 of even-numbered years. If you hold both a LMHP and an associated certificate in SW, you are not required to earn separate hours for each license and certificate that you hold. Twenty (20) hours of home study permitted. |
