Michigan RN required number of CE credits per year(s) Nursing licenses are renewed every 2 years by March 31. All Michigan licensed nurses must complete 25 hours of board approved continuing education, with at least one hour in pain and symptom management, within the two years immediately preceding the expiration date of their license.

CE for Specialty: Athletic Training 80 hours of continuing education must be completed triennially. You are not required to submit proof of completion of the required continuing education hours. However, you MUST keep the documentation showing completion of the required continuing education hours for 3 years from the date you sent in the application for renewal. If audited, you would be asked to submit this documentation.
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 20 Contact Hours must be completed each 2 year renewal period.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition There is no continuing education requirement. The rules are currently in development. The Board’s website will post them when they are completed.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services Michigan has a three year licensure period. CE Requirements for EMTs and Paramedics Medical First Responder (MFR): 15                                                       EMT-Basic: 30 hours                                             EMT-Specialist: 36 hours                                           Paramedic: 45 hours
CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology There are no Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy There are no Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 150 Contact Hours must be completed every 3 years; 75 must be Category 1 and must include medical ethics. Licenses must be renewed every three years.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Your initial Michigan Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant license is only good until the next expiration date of your profession (anywhere from 4 months to 1 year). After your first renewal, your license will be valid for 2 years. You will receive a renewal application 45-60 days prior to the expiration date of your license and it will state the renewal fee required.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 30 hours of continuing education must be completed every 2 years. 1 hour must be in pain and symptom management.  A pharmacist may not earn more than 12  hours of CE in one day. Home study must be approved by the board of ACPE. 10 live hours are required. If licensed more than 1 year but less than 2 years: 15 hours with 1 hour on pain and symptom management. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician No continuing education is required.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: There is no continuing education requirement.
CE for Specialty: Psychology There are no continuing education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology Mammography – 15 hours of CE Required to pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam or meet standards for issuance of a registration certificate as a radiology technologist from American Registry of Clinical Radiography Technologist and have 3 hours of continuing education units in stereotactic breast biopsy. Renewal happens every three years.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy There is no continuing education requirement.
CE for Specialty: Social Work Renewal: forty-five (45) social work contact hours must be completed every three (3) years from date of issue. At least five (5) of those hours in ethics and at least one (1) hour in pain and pain symptom management in in Pain and Pain Symptom Management may include, but are not limited to: courses in Behavior Management, Psychology of Pain, Behavior Modification, or Stress Management. Maximum of ten (10) hours of online computer programs pertaining to social work and maximum of ten (10) hours in a social work journal or textbook, of an article or chapter related to the practice of social work.
