Louisiana RN required number of CE credits per year(s) Louisiana RN and APRN licenses are calendar year licenses. Online license renewals open October 1, 2012 after 1:00 pm CST (Central Standard Time). It will remain open until 11:59 pm January 31, 2013 (CST). Please note – after December 31, 2012 11:59 pm (CST) there will be a late fee of $25.00 added to application fee. RNs and LPNs: The annual continuing education requirement is based on employment: 5 contact hours (full-time nursing practice), 10 contact hours (part-time nursing practice), or 15 contact hours (not employed or worked less than 160 hours).

CE for Specialty: Athletic Training 24 hours of continuing education must be completed biennially. Licenses expire at the end of the 2 year period based on the license date.
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 10 Contact Hours must be completed annually by June 30th. Dual licensees must complete 15 Hours per year. At least 5 have to be in the area of specific licensure.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition 15 hours of continuing education are due annually; must be in the area of dietetics and nutrition.  Renewal notices are mailed annually on April 15th. All licenses shall be renewed annually by June 30th.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services Louisiana has a two year licensure period. CE Requirements for EMTs and Paramedics NREMT requirements: 72 hours
CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology CE: 12 Contact Hours must be completed annually.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy CE: 12 Contact Hours must be completed annually. Continuing education hours will only carry over for one year to the next renewal date.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 20 Contact Hours of Category 1 CME must be obtained annually. Regardless of birth month hours must be obtained from January- December in the year prior to renewal. Licenses must be renewed annually.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Occupational Therapists (OT) Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA) are required to complete 15 hours or 1.5 continuing education units (CEUs) every year on or before the last day of the licensee’s birth month. One CEU constitutes 10 hours of participation in an organized continuing professional education program approved by the board
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 15 hours of continuing education must be completed by December 31 every year. No less than 3/10 ACPE or board-approved CPE units, or 3 hours, shall be acquired through live presentations, as designated by ACPE or the board. Alternatively, should a pharmacist choose to not acquire at least 3/10 ACPE or board-approved CPE units, or 3 hours, through live presentations, then he shall acquire an additional 5/10 ACPE or board-approved CPE units, or 5 hours, through any other acceptable method, over and above the minimum requirement, for a total of 2 ACPE or board-approved CPE units, or 20 hours. 3 live hours are required. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician 10 hours of continuing education must be completed annually by June 30th.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: A. Unless exempted under §198, licensees shall successfully complete, document and report to the board at least 30 hours of board–approved continuing education courses or activities in the biennial renewal period. No carryover of continuing education hours from one renewal period to another shall be allowed. Continuing education will be granted in the reporting period in which the academic coursework, clinical instruction, tool, residency, or fellowship is completed. B. The four types of approved courses or activities and requirement for each are: 1. jurisprudence?a minimum of two contact hours; 2. ethics or professionalism ?a minimum of two contact hours; 3. clinical/preventive ?a minimum of 18 contact hours, up to six of which may be earned by completion of a board approved self assessment tool 4. administrative?a maximum of eight contact hours may be applied during each renewal period. Additional clinical/preventive hours may be substituted for administrative. C. No more than 15 hours of continuing education submitted to the board shall be home study, internet or online courses or by other distance learning methods. This excludes the jurisprudence requirement, if taken online.
CE for Specialty: Psychology 30 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal period. All licensees must complete 2 hours in ethics and/ or forensic issues. Licenses must be renewed biennially. Odd licensees report in odd years and even licensees report in even years. (i.e.: License #3120 reports in 2014 etc.) The reporting period extends from July 1st through June 30th. (i.e.: July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2013.)
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology CE per license: General Radiographer – 24 hours . Nuclear Medicine Technologist –  24 hours Radiation Therapy Technologist –  24 hours CE must be related to the licensee’s profession.    Renewal period begins on March 1st and ends on May 31st of even years.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy 10 hours of continuing education are due annually on or before the date of its expiration date.   6 hours shall be related to cardiopulmonary care
CE for Specialty: Social Work Renewal: twenty (20) hours of social work continuing education must be completed by August 31 annually. A maximum of ten (10) hours of home study is permitted. RSW/GSW/LCSW: Three (3) clock hours in social work ethics once every two years.  LCSW only: Ten (10) clock hours each year shall be clinical content, including diagnosis and treatment. Continuing education hours are prorated as follows during the initial year of registration, certification or licensure:  April, May, June-0 hours; July, August, September-20 hours; October, November, December-15 hours; January, February, March -10 hours.
