Georgia RN required number of CE credits per year(s) Effective January 31, 2016, all registered nurses will be required to complete continuing education competency requirements as a condition of licensure renewal. Georgia law provides five options from which licensees may choose in order to satisfy the continuing competency requirements. Licensees who renew in January 2016 must satisfy one of the options between February 1, 2014 and January 31, 2016. Georgia LPN required number of CME credits per year(s) Effective March 31, 2017, all licensed practical nurses will be required to complete twenty (20) hours of continuing education as a condition of licensure renewal. Licensees who renew in March 2017 must satisfy one of the options between April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2017. CE for Specialty: Athletic Training 40 contact hours of continuing education is required for every license renewal. However, an Athletic Trainer who received their Georgia License within 1 year of the renewal date shall not be required to meet the continuing education requirements for that renewal period. (This applies only if the licensee renews his license. If the license lapses for failure to renew and must be reinstated, the CE hours will be required.) Georgia Athletic Trainer licenses expire June 30th of each even numbered year. Licenses are renewed every 2 years.
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 2.0 CEUs (20 clock hours) is required during each biennium period of licensure. Renewal is required by March 31 of the odd number years. Individuals who hold Georgia licenses in both Speech-Language Pathology and in Audiology shall be required to complete a minimum of 2.0 CEUs in Speech-Language Pathology and 2.0 CEUs in Audiology. Not more than two hours (0.2 CEUs) of the required twenty (2.0 CEUs) per biennium will be awarded for courses in the area(s) of ethics, record-keeping, documentation, Georgia laws and rules, Medicaid regulations and/or Medicare regulations. A continuing education unit (CEU) is defined as ten (10) clock hours of continuing professional education. CEU hours may not be carried over from one licensure biennium to the next. CEU hours must be in educational experiences directly related to the scope of practice of the Georgia licensee. See Board Rule 609-7-.01 for the specific CE requirements and a description of scope of practice.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition 30 hours of continuing education is due March 31st of even years.  Must be approved by CDR or the board.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services Must renew by June 30th of even years. CE Requirements for EMTs and Paramedics: 40 hours of CE
CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology There are no Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy CE: 24 CE hours must be completed over a two-year renewal period. Licenses expire on October 31st of even numbered years. (e.g.; October 31st, 2012.) CE courses must be from a NCBTMB approved provider. 12 of the 24 CE hours must include direct, hands-on, supervised instruction.
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 40 Contact Hours must be completed biennially by Physicians and Physicians Assistants. At least 10 hours completed by PAs shall be directly related to the specialty of the Board approved primary supervising physician. Physician assistants who are authorized to issue prescription drug orders shall be required as a part of the number of hours of continuing education required herein, to complete a minimum of 3 hours in practice specific pharmaceuticals in which the physician assistant has prescription order privileges. Licenses must be renewed every two years.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: All Occupational Therapy (OT) and Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) licenses expire on March 31st of all even years. You are responsible for renewing your license during the renewal period. The Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy requires each licensed OT and OTA to complete continuing education. A minimum 24 contact clock hours of continuing education is required for every renewal. 14 of the hours must relate to direct “hands on” patient care. Up to 12 hours may be obtained using on-line or home-study courses. The remaining hours can be in any contact area related to occupational therapy practice including but not limited to supervision, education, documentation, quality assurance, and administration. The Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy requires each licensed OT and OTA to complete up to 2 hours in ethics, every two years or per each renewal period.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 30 hours of pharmacy continuing education must be completed by December 31 of even numbered years. Home study must be approved by the board. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician No continuing education is required.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: PTs and PTAs must renew by December 31st of odd years. CE: 30 contact hours required for each two-year licensure period for both PTs and PTAs, including 4 hours of ethics and jurisprudence.
CE for Specialty: Psychology 40 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal period. All licensees are required to complete 3 hours in ethics and 3 hours in psychopharmacology. All first time renewals must complete a minimum of 3 hours in the area of cultural diversity. Licenses must be renewed biennially. The renewal period extends from January 1st of every odd numbered year to December 31st of the following even numbered year.
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology No license required.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy 30 hours of continuing education are due biennially by the last day of the month in which the applicant’s birthday falls.   Continuing education must be approved by the board Only internet courses that have been approved by the AARC will be accepted
CE for Specialty: Social Work Renewal: thirty-five (35) hours of social work continuing education must be completed by September 30th of even-numbered years. A minimum of five (5) of the thirty-five (35) hours shall be specifically designated as continuing education in professional ethics relating to Social Work.  Of the remaining thirty (30) hours, a minimum of fifteen (15) shall be core hours and not more than fifteen (15) shall be related hours. A maximum of ten (10) hours of continuing education may be obtained online for each two-year renewal period. Core hours are continuing education hours acquired in activities in the specialty in which the license is held.  Related hours are continuing education hours acquired in activities in a specialty other than the one in which the license is held or in the allied professions of Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, or Pastoral Counseling. All contact hours can be home study.
