Alabama RN Required number of CE credits per year(s) 24 contact hours every two years for RNs. CE for Specialty: Athletic Training 26 hours of continuing education must be completed annually. The annual licensure period shall be construed as January 1st through December 31st. The annual renewal period shall be construed as December 1st through November 30th. Alabama licensees issued a license between July 1st and December 31st shall be exempt from continuing education requirements for the first renewal period.
CE for Specialty: Audiology/SLP CE: 12 Contact Hours for Audiologists and 24 Contact Hours for Dual Licenses must be completed per renewal period. Alabama licenses must be renewed annually.
CE for Specialty: Dietetics/Nutrition 30 hours of CE required on September 30th if every odd year.
CE for Specialty: Emergency Medical Services Alabama licensees need to renew every 2 years.  Renewal applications received after March 1 will not guarantee the applicant’s license will be processed in time to avoid expiring.  All licenses expire at midnight on March 31 in the stated year of their expiration. CE Requirements for EMTs: 24 contact hours every two years for EMTs. CE Requirements for Paramedics: 48 contact hours every two years for Paramedics. CE Requirements for EMT-Intermediate: 36 contact hours every two years for EMT-Intermediate.
CE for Specialty: Laboratory Technology There are no Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Massage Therapy CE: 16 hours must be completed over a two-year renewal period. Up to 25 percent, or four hours of credit, of the required number of hours of continuing education may be earned in each of the following areas: Teaching a qualifying class, course, seminar, or workshop. Publishing an article in the field relating to massage therapy. Speaking on the subject of massage therapy. Being a panelist discussing massage therapy. Participating in a personal growth class. Two hours of professional ethics. Licenses expire on the anniversary of the issued date
CE for Specialty: Medicine and Surgery CE: 25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™   Alabama licenses must be renewed annually.
CE for Specialty: Occupational Therapy CE Requirements: Alabama Occupational Therapists (OT) are required to complete 30 hours of continuing education or 3 CEU’s every 2 years. Alabama Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTA) are required to complete 20 hours of continuing education or 2 CEU’s every 2 years.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy 15 hours of  pharmacy continuing education must be completed annually. 3 live hours are required. Home study permitted. Only ACPE programs or courses may be used to satisfy Continuing Education requirements. ACPE-approved courses for Pharmacy Technicians end in the letter “T”. ACPE-approved courses pharmacists (only) end in the letter “P”.  Courses ending in the letter “P” cannot be used to meet pharmacy technician CE requirements.
CE for Specialty: Pharmacy Technician 3 hours of continuing education are required; 1 of which must be live.ed. Home study permitted. All licenses must be renewed annually. Effective January 1, 2011, ONLY ACPE programs or courses may be used to satisfy Continuing Education requirements.
CE for Specialty: Physical Therapy CE Requirements: Completion of approved continuing education shall be a requirement for the renewal of Alabama licenses. A physical therapist shall complete a minimum of ten (10) board approved contact hours and a physical therapist assistant a minimum of ten (10) board approved contact hours during each compliance period. October 1 through September 30 of each year shall constitute a compliance period. Beginning October 1, 2015 licensees shall complete a 2 hour, board approved continuing education course for renewal every 5th year (years ending if “5” or “0” (2020, 2025…)) on the topic of physical therapy jurisprudence, covering both the Practice Act and the Administrative Code. Individuals licensed by endorsement shall complete a 2 hour, board approved continuing education course on the topic of physical therapy jurisprudence, covering both the Practice Act and the Administrative Code as part of their continuing education requirements for initial licensure renewal.
CE for Specialty: Psychology 20 hours of continuing education must be completed every renewal period. Alabama licenses must be renewed annually. The renewal period spans from October 1st to September 30th.
CE for Specialty: Radiology Technology No CE required.
CE for Specialty: Respiratory Therapy 24 hours of continuing education are due on November 1st of each odd year. Any course accepted for credit shall be at least 25 minutes in length. 1 contact hour = 50 minutes; 0.5 contact hour = 25 minutes 12 hours maximum for self-study/home-study courses
CE for Specialty: Social Work LBSW Renewal: 30 contact hours LGSW Renewal: 30 contact hours LCSW Renewal: 30 contact hours LCSW (PIP) Renewal: 20 contact hours You need thirty (30) hours for a two year period.  If you also have a PIP License you will need twenty (20) hours in addition to the thirty required. Of the 30 Hours required 20 are allowed to be in self-study/home-study programs of the 20 for the PIP all can be in self-study. Alabama Social Work licenses expire every two (2) years from date of issue.
