Program Summary

This presentation was part of the 2019 annual meeting of the Association of Asthma Educators. Below are the goals of this conference.

  • Highlight key differences in the management of patients with asthma from those who have asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease overlap.
  • Describe timely concepts of asthma disparities that asthma educators must address to improve patient outcomes.
  • Identify at least three causes of nocturnal symptoms in patients with asthma.
  • Develop a school-based plan for asthma care that includes issues important to the school, the provider, and the student with asthma.
  • Identify leadership opportunities to improve asthma care and education at the national, state, and local levels.
  • Develop at least three strategies to improve communication with teens that fail to recognize their asthma.
  • Differentiate between asthma and anaphylaxis in the school setting.
  • Discuss current scientific research regarding exercise-induced bronchospasm.
  • Explain appropriate use of new devices in use for treatment and clinical monitoring of patients with asthma.
  • Identify emerging treatments and clinical findings reported in the asthma literature.
