Severe Uncontrolled Asthma

Course Description:

The allergist is confronted daily with the necessity to be prepared to evaluate and manage patients with various asthma phenotypes. It is necessary for the allergist to be familiar with the latest medical evidence regarding the diagnosis and therapy of asthma, perhaps more so than any other specialist. The need for this is continually growing. In addition, during a recent EAC annual meeting, post-meeting evaluations on the topic of asthma were requested by both the physicians and allied health professionals attending the conference.

This activity is designed for phyicians, pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals working in the respiratory field.

2. Utilize biomarkers and to predict therapeutic response in severe asthma and COPD
3. Design optimal therapy in patients with asthma and COPD
4. Diagnose and manage eosinophilic esophagitis
5. Describe the pathogenesis of chronic urticaria
6. Diagnose and manage hereditary angioedema
7. Discuss current and future allergy immunotherapy treatment options for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis
8. Diagnose and manage allergic skin diseases including chronic urticaria, atopic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis
9. Diagnose and manage drug allergy
10. Differentiate anaphylaxis from mast cell disorders
11. Evaluate and treat appropriate patients for potential immunodeficiency

1. Define the phenotype of uncontrolled severe asthma

3. Describe management plan options for a patient with chronic severe uncontrolled asthma
4. Employ shared decision making in clincial practice
