Program Summary
Despite the volume of readily available health data, healthcare is still learning how to systematize data-guided conversations. Even data-appreciative executives struggle with demonstrating immediate ROI of analytics. But evolving reimbursement policies foreshadow grave risks for organizations who cannot leverage data among payers, providers, and patients in the clinical ecosystem.

Making the leap to lead with data requires a fundamental transformation in the mindset of healthcare staff at all levels of the business ecosystem. The ability of organizations to compete successfully is tied to the data literacy level of its staff. Data literacy is defined as the desire and ability to engage constructively in society through and with data. It is expected to become as critical as reading, writing, and presentation competencies for business professionals in the coming years. As applied to healthcare, high data literacy implies to ability to engage in the business of delivering patient care by developing, evangelizing, and being counseled by data insights.

This educational presentation will articulate how both organizations and individuals can build their collective data literacy. We will share case studies describing how leading health organizations have approached this problem as well as our healthcare analytics competency model that enables individuals to pinpoint their own competency gaps.

Session objectives:
  • Gauge your own data literacy and numeracy skills interactively during our live presentation
  • Describe the 5 most critical traits of a health data champion regardless of their clinical background
  • Identify the nine domains of analytic competencies and envision the importance of a given competency area for any healthcare staff member.
  • Demonstrate how to assess your own competency against these knowledge domains against an industry benchmark
